Mama friends. This is it. The one you’ve been looking for. I’m about to share with you the ONLY sound machine you’ll ever need. It’s the Hatch Baby Rest!
But first, let me tell you why you need it.
The Fourth Trimester
The fourth trimester lasts from baby’s birth until he is 3 months old from his due date. During this time baby is adjusting to being on the outside and anything we can do to recreate the womb for him will allow him to adjust more easily and quickly. So, how do you recreate the womb for your little man?
- Swaddle him so he feels nice and snug, just like when he was a little pretzel in your belly
- Use small, quick, side to side motions to help him calm down when needed
- Turn on a sound machine that can mimic the sound he had gotten very comfortable with
By using these three methods, in particular, you will help your brand new little darling get used to life in your arms rather than in your tummy.
The Specifics On Why To Use A Sound Machine
A sound machine is such a comfort to baby. If you have ever shhhhhh’d in your baby’s ear while he is upset, you know this sound can help calm him down. This is because it reminds him of the the womb, where it was very noisy. Inside your tummy, baby was surrounded by amniotic fluid so outside sounds were muted, but he was very much able to hear your blood flowing, your heart rate and the glorious sounds of your digestion. Essentially, you have been a very noisy neighbor. But baby has gotten used to these sounds, so trying to sleep in a silent space will be far from the ordinary and will actually be disruptive.
Enter: Hatch Baby Rest
The Hatch Baby Rest is a super smart sound machine that will allow you to have total control over what baby hears, when he hears it and what light he is exposed to. Also, because it has amazing programmable and customizable options, you can set it and forget it! One less thing to think about besides keeping your tiny human alive? Yes, please!
Hatch Baby Rest Features
The Hatch Baby Rest is a great sound machine! It has 12 different sounds, so one is sure to be a hit with you and your babe.
When baby is in the fourth trimester, the white noise option (the TV icon) is perfect and soothing. As baby grows, this machine can stay with him as he enjoys songs and nursery rhymes.
You can program a sound to come on at a certain time, choose one from your phone or use the controls on the bottom of the machine to select a sound. There is also a ring at the top of the machine that allows for touch controls.
The Hatch Baby Rest is a great nightlight because it has scientifically proven colors that promote baby’s natural circadian rhythm and melatonin production. What’s not to love about that?
These color options work just like the sounds in that they can be controlled and programmed to come on at certain times or be turned on at the machine.
Time To Rise
Anyone who has a toddler knows that our advancing little darlings need a visual cue for when it’s ok to call for mom to come get him or if he’s in a toddler bed, to come out himself. There isn’t a smarter time to rise machine out there, my friends! This machine allows you to program the colors, as mentioned above, which can help your little man know when he can vacate his bed/room. In our home, orange is used as the visual reminder that it is time to be quiet and sleep. (We chose orange because it is a color that promotes rather than disrupts sleep). When the color turns blue, my sweet boy is welcome to come out and start his day.
This feature really rocks my world. As I mentioned above, you can program this machine from your smart phone. I have all nap and bed times programed so that the sound and color I want comes on at set times during the day and evening. I tend to set it to come on about 30 minutes before the schedule nap or bedtime so that if we are running a bit ahead of schedule due to some grumpiness, my Hatch Baby Rest is already setting the mood.
Smart Phone Controlled
The reason this feature is worth talking just a bit more about is because it is so convenient. When I need to wake up in the night with baby to change a diaper and feed, I can use my phone to turn the light up just enough to see what I’m doing. This is a huge benefit because we want to rouse baby as little as possible during the night hours. However, I still need to see what I’m doing.
We have four kids and you best believe it gets loud up in here. Often. But I like to let my big kids do their thang without constantly reminding them that the baby is asleep. So, if we’re being just a tad louder than our usual, I use my phone to gently and slowly turn up the sound machine without ever stepping foot in the bedroom. This is handy for when guests pop by during a sleep time and they aren’t really in the ‘whisper because baby is asleep and if he wakes up I’m going to cry’ season any more. So, when they get to loudly chatting, I just turn up my dream making sound machine and don’t have to worry.
Honestly, this little beauty does it all. There is nothing else out there that does the job this does, in my opinion. So, it’s my number one go to for a sound machine + time to rise clock and I’ve been so happy with it that I just had to share it with you!
